Careful screening by Breakthrough at Caron's skilled therapists is essential to assure emotional safety and prepare clients for this experience. Individuals who are not appropriate for Breakthrough due to serious mental health issues or active addictions are given recommendations and referrals as needed. Questions of timing a client's participation are handled on an individual basis.
Breakthrough is not a quick fix, but an important part of a therapeutic plan for personal growth and positive change. We urge all clients to continue recovery with their referring therapists after attending Breakthrough at Caron. And, we know from experience that clients, armed with a clear sense of hope and direction, are strongly motivated to work even harder. Even if they do fall back into old patterns, they are now better equipped to resolve them. Some also return to our refresher weekends and personal growth workshops, offered both on the Caron campus and occasionally at satellite locations around the country.
Referring therapists report being amazed at clients' immediate and long-term changes. Clients often demonstrate a significant shift in perspective, a new foundation of awareness and self-esteem, as well as a degree of relief from the pressures of painful emotions. That's why therapists depend on Breakthrough at Caron as an adjunct to clients' ongoing outpatient therapy.
"Breakthrough has been a very important step in the treatment process for many of my clients over the past 17 years. I have had a number of clients experience for the first time in their lives what it feels like to be part of a ‘healthy family.' With this ‘template' they can begin to build a healthy support system in their day-to-day lives when they return home."
