Accommodations FAQ's

  1. Do you have private rooms at Harmony House?
We only have one single room at Harmony for those who have a specific need. Several of the suites have a separate sleeping area. Suites accommodate 3-4 people and clients report enjoying the roommate experience as part of their growth process while they are here.

  2. Can I stay at a local hotel instead of staying at Harmony House?
No, our experience has shown that the family like environment at Breakthrough makes it possible to integrate and process what you are learning about yourself through living with group members during the program. This is one difference between Breakthrough and similar programs.

  3. Can I smoke while at Breakthrough?
There is a smoking area available outdoors but we prefer that smokers limit time away from the rest of the group.

  4. Do you have facilities for the physically disabled?
Breakthrough is able to accommodate clients with disabilities. The mansion and Harmony House are handicapped accessible and transportation is available when needed between buildings.

  5. Will I have access to physical fitness facilities while at the program?
The gym at Caron Treatment Centers is available on a limited basis and needs to be pre-arranged. We suggest walks and gentle exercise while you are here rather than any isolating activity or extreme exertion. The goal is to keep emotions active and close to the surface.

  6. I have special dietary needs. Can you accommodate me?
While at Breakthrough all meals will be eaten in the Caron dining hall which offers a wide variety of meal options, including kosher and vegetarian selections. If you have additional needs please discuss them with your intake coordinator.

  7. Is there a doctor or nurse on site?
No there are no medical personnel or facilities. Emergencies are handled through local resources.

  8. Can I continue to take my medications during my stay?
During your intake you will be asked about all medications and you will need to bring your medications with you when you attend. They will be your responsibility and will not be collected or handled by staff.

  9. What should I wear and pack for my stay?
A complete packing list will be provided when you register. Participants are encouraged to dress casually and comfortably. Please bring layers and plan to dress modestly. Do not bring anything like short shorts or revealing tops.

  10. Can I leave the campus during the workshop to meet a friend or go shopping?
No. Developing trust within the group is essential to the successful outcome of the Breakthrough experience. We expect each person to attend all sessions and meals and remain with or near the group as much as possible during breaks.

  11. Will I have access to a computer and the internet during my stay?
There is no computer access and so that you can focus on the work you need to do at Breakthrough, we do not recommend bringing a computer.

  12. Will I have access to a phone or can I bring my cell phone.
If you do bring a cell phone we ask that it remains in your car or that you turn it off and put it in your luggage. Contact with home or work can be distracting or even disruptive to the focus needed for developing trust within the group. In an emergency you may be reached easily through the Caron main phone line 800-678-2332 any time of the day or night. If an important call out is necessary, staff will make a phone available to you.
